AIDEN'S BIRTH STORY

Last Wednesday while Emily and I were taking a nap I felt a POP in my lower back. It was about 4:00pm and I was sound asleep but I felt it. I thought "my water just broke" but didn't feel anything, water gush or contractions, so I just kind of ignored it, but still kept it in mind. For the rest of the night I had no water leakage or pain at all, so I thought maybe it was my hip popping or something so I just let it go.

The next morning, when I got out of bed I had 4 small gushes of water. I called Bruce at work and told him about it and that I really thought my water had broken the day before. He wasn't quite sure what to think. I called the hospital and they told me to come in and be checked out. I took Emily to my MIL's house while I went to Labor and Delivery.

I was taken to a triage room at L&D. My OB just happened to be there anyway so she checked me out. They did all the testing and concluded that my water wasn't broken but couldn't explain to me my "pop". She said I had probably peed, but I was pretty sure I hadn't. So they sent me home.

I went to my MIL's to pick up Emily and stayed for a couple of hours while she fed me. We were disappointed that I was sent home, she was sure I'd be admitted for labor. Emily and I went home and went about our business as usual.

About an hour later (about 1:30), I was putting clothes in the washing machine and BAM!!..gush...gush...gush...gush...I was soaked!! No popping sound just tons and tons of water. It didn't stop, it is amazing how much is actually in there! I was like, OH MY GOD, I KNEW IT WAS BROKEN!! I called Bruce at work and told him to get home ASAP, called L&D AGAIN, and my OB was sitting right there and she told me to come back in.

Bruce took his time getting home. In the mean time I am walking around with towels in my pants trying to get things ready to go, and get Emily ready. My MIL came to our house and stayed with her all night, until Bruce got home at about 2:30am. Bruce got home at about 2:45 and changed and we went to the hospital. We got to L&D at about 3:00pm and were admitted.

After getting everything ready and my IV in place, they started pitocin at 4:00pm. I was still at only 2cm. At 7:15 I got my epidural (it took 40 minutes and a few attempts to get in, but finally did) and all was well with the world again. At 7:30 they checked me and I was still only 2cm! I was so bummed until I found out I was toally efaced so I knew I would start dialating soon. At 9:30 I was ready to push. I had gone from 2cm to 10cm in less than 2 hours.

My OB didn't want me to start pushing right away because of how fast I had progressed (2 hours) and wanted my body to do what it could on it's own. We did that for awhile then I was allowed to push and Aiden was born at 10:54pm, Thursday night.

He was 7 pounds, 9.9 ounces, 20 inches long and as beautiful as ever!!!
